What does my health plan cover?

Benefits covered by Blue Cross of Idaho plans at no extra cost

Your Blue Cross of Idaho health plan may cover many general health services at no extra cost to you as part of your plan benefits. These preventive care services are recommended by nationally recognized healthcare organizations and give you a window into your overall health.

Common cancer screenings

Here are some of the cancer screenings covered under most Blue Cross of Idaho plans:

  • Breast cancer screening
  • Cervical cancer screening
  • Screening mammograms
  • Colorectal cancer screening

Your doctor may recommend some of these screenings when you reach a certain age. How often you get these screenings may also be determined by your risk and your doctor’s recommendation.

Common vaccines

Here are some of the vaccines covered under most Blue Cross of Idaho plans:

  • Influenza
  • Tetanus
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV)
  • Varicella (chicken pox)
  • Pneumococcal (pneumonia)

Vaccines are an important part of staying healthy. They are effective, safe and can help you prevent complications from viruses. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions about vaccines and what may be right for you.

Common health screenings

Here are some other screenings covered under most Blue Cross of Idaho plans:

  • Bone density
  • Cholesterol screening
  • Complete blood count (CBC)
  • Diabetes screening
  • Sexually transmittable disease (STD) screening

In addition to cancer screenings and vaccines, these types of screenings can monitor your health and help you catch any issues early.

Annual wellness visits

Your annual wellness visit is a great time to talk to your doctor about what preventive services are right for you. During your annual wellness visit, you can talk to your doctor about any changes you may have noticed in your health since your last visit. This visit also gives your doctor a chance to review your health and schedule any follow-up screenings or tests you may need.
