Get high-quality, affordable care with a BlueHPN plan

The Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue High Performance Networksm (BlueHPNsm) is designed to help you get high-quality and affordable care through a select network of providers. With BlueHPN, you can find a full range of carefully selected in-network doctors, specialists and hospitals in more than 65 metropolitan areas across the country. If your employer offers the BlueHPN network as part of your plan offerings, here are a few things you should keep in mind about finding care using the BlueHPN network.

Three things to know about BlueHPN:

top three things to know about the bluehpn network1. Most importantly, know your network

The BlueHPN plan uses a select group of in-network doctors and facilities across the country. To use this plan, you must visit one of these participating in-network providers. You will be responsible for the full cost of any services provided by any doctor or facility that are not part of this network.

In-network providers can be found in more than 65 metropolitan areas across the country. You can find in-network providers by logging in to members.bcidaho.com or the Blue Cross of Idaho member app and using our Find Care tool. If you are not on the BlueHPN plan but want to explore network providers, log in as a guest and select the BlueHPN network.

If you plan to travel, or have dependents outside the area, be sure to check if there are participating providers in those areas.

2. Primary and specialty care

You can continue seeing your existing providers only if they are part of the BlueHPN network. If they are not, you must select a new in-network doctor or you will be responsible for the full cost of care. You do not need a referral to see a specialist, but they must be part of the BlueHPN network for services to be covered.

3. Urgent or emergency care

If you need urgent or emergency care, services will be covered for any provider or facility you visit if the diagnosis is classified as urgent or an emergency. If you visit an out-of-network provider and your visit is not considered urgent or an emergency, your claim will be classified as a regular visit and you will be responsible for the full cost of care.

If possible, please contact Blue Cross of Idaho before receiving care from an out-of-network provider.
