Trouble staying on track with your medicines? Here’s help.

Taking your medicine as prescribed can be hard sometimes. If you forget a dose now and then or feel overwhelmed by keeping track of your medicines, you’re not alone. Many people run into the same challenges. But taking your medicine when and how you’re supposed to is a key part of medicine safety. The good news is that a few simple steps can help.

Simple ways to stay on track

  • Set reminders. Try a calendar, phone app, alarm, or sticky note – whatever works best for you.
  • Make it part of your routine. Taking your medicine with a daily habit, like brushing your teeth or eating breakfast, can make it easier to remember.
  • Get refills delivered. Home delivery and automatic refills can help you avoid running out or missing doses.

What helps you the most is likely to be what fits best with your daily life.

If you take several medicines

  • Make a schedule. Write down what to take and when, and keep it somewhere easy to see.
  • Use a pill organizer. This can help you keep track of your medicines throughout the week.
  • Ask about other options. In some cases, your doctor or pharmacist may be able to suggest medicines you take less often.

Even small changes can make a big difference.

Speak up about concerns

Be sure to tell your doctor or pharmacist if:

  • You have side effects
  • Your pills are hard to swallow
  • Cost is a concern

Sharing your concerns helps you stay safe with medicines. It can also help you find solutions for any problems you’re having.
