Do you need health insurance?

Find health insurance on Idaho's health insurance exchange

do you need health insuranceHealth insurance is an essential part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. If you’re looking for health insurance for the 2022 plan year, a great place to start looking for coverage is on Idaho’s health insurance exchange, Your Health Idaho.

What you need to know

When is Open Enrollment?

The Open Enrollment Period (OEP) in Idaho runs from November 1 to December 15, 2021. During this timeframe, you can shop and compare plans across a variety of health insurers to find a plan that fits your needs. You can also make changes to your existing coverage or renew your coverage if you already have a plan through Your Health Idaho. If you don’t apply and select a plan, make changes to your existing coverage or renew by December 15, then you won’t be able to do so through the exchange until the next OEP or if you have a qualifying life event (e.g., have a child, get a divorce) that qualifies you for a Special Enrollment Period.

How much will it cost?

The cost of your monthly health plan premium and out-of-pocket costs can vary depending on which plan you choose. But you might qualify for a tax credit, which can help lower your cost of your monthly premium, or cost-sharing reductions, which can lower your out-of-pocket costs (e.g., copays, prescriptions). The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare determines eligibility for tax credits and cost-sharing reductions based on income, household size and other criteria. Your Health Idaho has a tool that can help you estimate your costs and determine if you are eligible for any tax credits or cost-sharing reductions.

What coverage is available?

You can enroll in medical and dental coverage through the Idaho exchange. Vision coverage is included in all medical plans for children through the Idaho exchange, but adult vision coverage is not. Your Health Idaho offers vision coverage through VSP.

Benefits available to you

According to Your Health Idaho, plans sold through its exchange are required to cover 10 services that are important for comprehensive health coverage. These benefits include:

  • Doctor visits

  • Rehabilitative and habilitative services (like chronic disease management)
